IAR Systems signs development agreement with Renesas for RX MCU tools

Leading independent tools vendor IAR Systems and leading Japanese semiconductor vendor Renesas partner to develop tools and commercial software for new microcontroller family
IAR Systems has announced that it has signed an agreement with leading Japanese semiconductor vendor Renesas Technology Corp. to develop a range of software tools and commercial software for the new Renesas RX microcontroller family.

Renesas and IAR Systems have a long history together, originating in earlier partnerships with Hitachi Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, founders of Renesas. Over the years, the partnership has resulted in support from IAR Systems for most Renesas microcontroller families, currently including H8, H8S, R8C, M16C, M32C and R32C.

“As one of the world’s largest semiconductor vendors, Renesas is an important strategic partner to us”, said Olle Eriksson, CEO of IAR Systems. “This development agreement is a logical progression of the long-term relationship we have with Renesas and puts further emphasis on the commitment our two companies have together to provide outstanding solutions for the embedded market.
The agreement includes development of RX support in IAR Systems renowned C/C++ development environment IAR Embedded Workbench, as well as in the software product family IAR PowerPac with real-time operating system, file system, USB stack and TCP/IP stack. IAR Systems will also deliver a Japanese language version of IAR Embedded Workbench for RX, which will make it more attractive to the Japanese market where Renesas has an exceptional market share.

IAR Systems tools and software for Renesas RX family will be available in the course of 2009.
